I’ve been struggling over the past year with my mental health. It flows like a tide and gets better and worse but it’s always a battle. Recently it’s got significantly worse and I’m taking action. Part of this included doing a lot of research online and I found it hugely comforting to read stories from people in similar situations. Hence why I’ve decided to share my story and help those going through similar situations. So, if you’re going through something similar to what I’m about to explain then I hope you find comfort in my story.

Working is easier than thinking

There were a few points in 2019 and 2020 that were so low and bleak I didn’t know if I’d make it through. I’m fine and I didn’t do anything stupid, but I thought about it almost every day. I got myself a new tattoo instead. It’s like an acceptable form of self-harm. I probably shouldn’t say that, but it totally is. Most of my tattoos came about during periods of darkness in my life.

I have had a few comments saying I am telling my story for attention or to help engagement on my social media. To grab attention from people. If anyone thinks that then you are wrong. I have been getting ready to write about this for almost 18 months. I didn’t know how much I would share [or] if I ever would. If I couldn’t write about it or felt it wasn’t right to then people still wouldn’t know what I went through.

On September 12th, 2017, a woman was rude to me on public transport. Five months later, I’m still thinking about it – this is the reality of anxiety sufferers.
When I take the train at peak times, I often choose not to take a seat, even though the train is relatively empty where I get on. I am afraid I won’t be able to get off at my stop if I don’t stand near the door. However, on this occasion – I was attending a workshop at an alternate venue – I did decide to take a seat.
