Draining Resentment to Clear your Head

Happiness, mental health, resentment, sports, university

One thing that gets on my head is resentment. People with mental blocks that have been caused by unhealthy attachments to bad experiences that have affected their life and got in the way of their happiness. It is like taking poison and expecting the person you dislike to die.

Recently I have re-evaluated parts of my life that have caused me to be negative towards some people. It was while trying to get over my failed exams from last year that made me want to get on with my life. I found a method that helped me to get over the resentment I had towards my tutors. It involves learning to think about what you dislike about the person or group, identifying what makes you resent them, and then thinking about what it is that you might have done that played a part in this.

Holding onto a resentment and…

The Pursuit of Happiness

One of the biggest lessons I have learnt to date, is the fact that reality is purely subjective. Overthinking is a part of human nature, however it’s highly destructive to our experiences in life and can take away from our happiness.
William Shakespeare once wrote “there is nothing good or bad, thinking makes it so”.

Amidst the chaotic storm…A sense of clarity awaits

In order to grow in life, we must be willing to let go of our past demons. In life we have both good and bad experiences, we must be willing to grow out of these experiences. We cannot have the good without the bad. Equally we must learn to value our lives in the here and now and willing to have new experiences whilst it is possible.

The dual nature of the world shows that opposite forces can be complimentary, and seeking only positive experience can in…

In reality, low self-esteem affects more people than you think. Low self-esteem refers to how you feel about yourself overall. Comparing, gossiping about others, putting others first, even excessive Facebooking are all signs of low-self esteem. You may say you do these things to stay connected or because “I want to”. The truth is when one is content with themselves, they have healthy self-esteem; external validation is simply an additive, not a necessity to their lives. A person with healthy self-esteem spends the bulk of their time doing things that promote positivity within themselves and exude this in life.

Here are some typical habits which show low self esteem :

  • Saying “yes” to everything.
  • Negative self-talk or self-criticism.
  • Back down when opinions are challenged by others.
  • Being indecisive with simple decisions.
  • Fearing failure.
  • Taking constructive criticism personally.
  • Sweating the small stuff.
  • Afraid to share your opinions in a conversation.
  • Giving…

A different sort of self-care..

Meg's Mental Health Blog

Wednesday 27th Feb 🌞

Self care isn’t just about lush bathbombs and facemasks, it can be taking a day off from emails, taking the bus instead of walking or making yourself breakfast for the first time in months.

As you will be able to read from my personal diaries, I’ve really been struggling these last few weeks as I feel like time is ticking and everything is moving too fast but I’ve decided to try and seize some control back and vow not to submit another piece of coursework late this semester (and I mean after my extension finishes kind of late). Nobody is going to get me out of this cycle, there’s no ‘saviour’ so I’m going to have to do it myself and here’s how I plan to.

I’ve made a list of self care orientated tasks I honestly believe have the potential to change my life and…

Perks of being Highly Sensitive

Girl with the Paw Print Tattoo

I do things based on what feels right. It’s difficult to explain, but I’m very good at determining how people are feeling based on a feeling inside of me. Another thing that has always been a part of who I am are my dreams. I’ve always had a knack for dreams coming true, having the same dreams as someone close to me or being in someone else’s dream and communicating with them. Then, there are those dreams where, when I wake up, I just have a feeling that that person was dreaming about me as well. I’ve never been wrong so far.

The beauty about following my feelings is that they lead me in the right direction almost every time. I’m taught a lesson or able to find closure from the past if I keep moving forward and following what feels right. Being a highly sensitive person can seem like…

Life is here to be enjoyed

zacalstin

Life is here to be enjoyed, I am here to enjoy life.

That is such a difficult thing for me to write.

I know it sounds strange, but I’ve spent more than twenty years explicitly thinking that enjoyment is a superficial distraction from the real meaning of life.

With a childhood in which enjoyment was scarce and a temperament prone to sensitivity and idealism, I accepted at face value that “enjoying life” was something that other people did, and to the detriment of finding meaning or purpose.

I looked critically at mainstream sanguine and choleric expressions of enjoyment, and let these stand for “enjoying life” and “having fun”. It didn’t occur to me that I might find my own forms of fun and enjoyment in life.

And anyway, there was a slew of mystics, sages and saints to reassure me that enjoyment and fun were vain, pointless adventures that would…

It’s good to be sad sometimes

advice, feeling, happy, living, opinion, sad

Infinitesimal

“Don’t be sad” is a phrase often said, among others, to comfort a friend or loved one. Yet it’s a phrase that should perhaps be said less. The constant repression of emotions can feel encouraged, and yet the release actually ends up feeling a lot better. It’s okay to cry. In fact, it’s good to cry. You could spend all day completely fine, enjoying yourself with friends or family or by yourself, and then all of a sudden you feel awful. You’re sad for whatever reason, and that is okay. You shouldn’t bottle it in. I myself have a history of doing just that. Realistically, I know that I shouldn’t do it, and that it’s better to let it out. That doesn’t stop me from doing it. It’s not so black and white. Easy to know, harder to do. As are most things. It’s hard to let go sometimes and…

The Importance Of Self Care

selfcare-elf

Self care is something a lot of us – including me, tend to skimp out on. Whether it be because we are “too busy” or just don’t think it matters, all of us need to step up our game. No matter how much you want to deny it, self care WILL increase the health of your mind, body, and soul. One thing to remember, is that self care is not a one time deal. You have to commit. You have to force yourself to do what makes you feel good, even when all you want to do is lay in bed.

In this post, I wanted to give some ideas on what you can do to self care.

  1. Turn off electronics for a few hours. You would be surprised at how much better you feel without the weight of social media!
  2. Spend time playing with a pet. Throw a ball…

why do we crave “episodic happiness”?

comparisons, happiness, meaning of life, social media

Change is Life

i wonder frequently; why is there an innate need to compare yourself to others or situations of others to realize your own self worth and in some cases even for being happy in your life.? It’s interesting to note that a large component of our day 2 day happiness is driven when we compare our “fate” or “achievements” with others.

This type of behavior has exponentially expanded with the massive adoption of social media where the access to what “others” are doing is very easy. I believe social media platforms such as FB, Twitter, Instagram, have tapped into the innate need and have successfully monetized it which is brilliant in concept but could have terrifying consequences. What do you call this type of happiness?… Colloquially, i just call it “Episodic happiness” as it’s transient in nature and never lasts for long… The examples are many – I got better grades…

Ever wondered why you can never be mad at your mother for
very long? I Love my mom a lot, like almost all of us. If you see deep inside
its mainly because she loves you, accepts you, corrects you, does a thousand
other things and hence is just irreplaceable. Her entire life always revolves
around you. If we could just take the good part from this, try to use it in
every relationship we come across, we will have a beautiful life.

Mother not only loves you but also helps you become a better
individual, by being strict sometimes same goes with your teacher, your mentor,
or even your manager at work. They just want you to be better than what you
were before. If we do not put every
relationship we have, under the microscope, you will see things can work out
much better. It just takes few…
