When a situation surfaces strong feelings, take a moment to sit with the feeling and trust that it will fade and pass

Give yourself permission to lean fully into the feeling and be patient while the intensity swells and then starts to fade. Riding this wave of emotion allows your whole body to embrace the feeling completely and then let go. Each time the feeling surfaces, you ride the wave, and the wave crest becomes more and more manageable. This brings you in more control of your feelings and it leaves less baggage hanging onto your soul.

I STARTED ANOREXIA RECOVERY?!

anorexia nervosa , hospital , mental health , psychiatric , recovery

Naomi Jones's avatarnaomij99

So be honest, nobody really knows, although I think a lot of people can kinda tell… I started eating disorder ‘recovery’. Although I never ever say I’m recovering. I hate the term. Just something personal. And I really don’t want people to say I’m recovering or use the word recovery to me. I prefer to just say I’m doing better with eating disorder stuff.

I’m not overly sure when I started, but it kinda just happened. Being in a relationship helped me a lot, because it meant I was eating with somebody. I find it easier to cook for two people, rather than just myself. And I kinda had this perception in my head of how my boyfriend at the time preferred girls, whether it is true or not I don’t know. But I personally believed he liked people with a bit more weight. So I kinda pressured myself and…

Other People’s Feelings Are NOT Your Responsibility.

Career, Family, Lifestyle

This Intentional Life's avatar

I am always reading. I typically read a few books at a time, usually three to four, all about different topics and one of the ones that I’m reading right now is Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis. I read this excerpt and it just hit me so hard that I haven’t stopped thinking about it.

I was raised with a voice of authority that was male. My daddy is a strong and very forceful personality, and he demanded total obedience. I learned to live in hope of his approval and terrified of his displeasure. Then I met my husband when I was nineteen years old, and though he is a very different kind of man, I can recognize in retrospect that I transferred my feelings about my father to my husband. I was utterly codependent. I lived every day to please him and make him happy, and if…

It’s good to be sad sometimes

anonymous's avatarInfinitesimal

“Don’t be sad” is a phrase often said, among others, to comfort a friend or loved one. Yet it’s a phrase that should perhaps be said less. The constant repression of emotions can feel encouraged, and yet the release actually ends up feeling a lot better. It’s okay to cry. In fact, it’s good to cry. You could spend all day completely fine, enjoying yourself with friends or family or by yourself, and then all of a sudden you feel awful. You’re sad for whatever reason, and that is okay. You shouldn’t bottle it in. I myself have a history of doing just that. Realistically, I know that I shouldn’t do it, and that it’s better to let it out. That doesn’t stop me from doing it. It’s not so black and white. Easy to know, harder to do. As are most things. It’s hard to let go sometimes and…

Some People are Happy Being Angry

Learn to be happy doing everything you do“We choose our emotions so being angry is a choice some people make;” now I don’t know about you but I always feel good when I’m happy so I choose to focus on things that make me happy. My latest thought is; imagine if everybody in the world was happy doing everything they do. They are happy doing their chores, happy going to work, happy with how much money they have, happy looking after their families, happy interacting with the people in their life. When you think about it, it’s not that far-fetched, I don’t know what they’re really thinking so I can pretend they’re happy.

I’m going to make a big assumption that most people prefer to be happy too, however, I’ve noticed that some people spend a lot of their time getting angry over things they cannot control so I’m assuming they are happy being angry because this…

Inward Joy, Outward Expression

Happiness, Joy

eph21920's avatarStill Finding God

My sister came to Mass with us today. The parish was welcoming those who are coming into the church. The group consisted of people from young children to older adults. They were very serious as they recited their words. I’m sure they were nervous being up in front of everyone. As they processed out together, most of them still had on their serious face. However, one man was just beaming. My sister pointed him out and said how she loved his smile. He was in fact smiling from ear to ear. He was so joyful inside that it radiate in his expression. It made us smile probably others as well.

I Found God today in a beautiful expression of joy.
