Self care isn’t just about lush bathbombs and facemasks, it can be taking a day off from emails, taking the bus instead of walking or making yourself breakfast for the first time in months.

As you will be able to read from my personal diaries, I’ve really been struggling these last few weeks as I feel like time is ticking and everything is moving too fast but I’ve decided to try and seize some control back and vow not to submit another piece of coursework late this semester (and I mean after my extension finishes kind of late). Nobody is going to get me out of this cycle, there’s no ā€˜saviour’ so I’m going to have to do it myself and here’s how I plan to.

I’ve made a list of self care orientated tasks I honestly believe have the potential to change my life and…

It’s good to be sad sometimes

advice, feeling, happy, living, opinion, sad

anonymous's avatarInfinitesimal

ā€œDon’t be sadā€ is a phrase often said, among others, to comfort a friend or loved one. Yet it’s a phrase that should perhaps be said less. The constant repression of emotions can feel encouraged, and yet the release actually ends up feeling a lot better. It’s okay to cry. In fact, it’s good to cry. You could spend all day completely fine, enjoying yourself with friends or family or by yourself, and then all of a sudden you feel awful. You’re sad for whatever reason, and that is okay. You shouldn’t bottle it in. I myself have a history of doing just that. Realistically, I know that I shouldn’t do it, and that it’s better to let it out. That doesn’t stop me from doing it. It’s not so black and white. Easy to know, harder to do. As are most things. It’s hard to let go sometimes and…

The Importance Of Self Care

Self care is something a lot of us – including me, tend to skimp out on. Whether it be because we are ā€œtoo busyā€ or just don’t think it matters, all of us need to step up our game. No matter how much you want to deny it, self care WILL increase the health of your mind, body, and soul. One thing to remember, is that self care is not a one time deal. You have to commit. You have to force yourself to do what makes you feel good, even when all you want to do is lay in bed.

In this post, I wanted to give some ideas on what you can do to self care.

  1. Turn off electronics for a few hours. You would be surprised at how much better you feel without the weight of social media!
  2. Spend time playing with a pet. Throw a ball…

why do we crave “episodic happiness”?

comparisons, happiness, meaning of life, social media

confusedsoul27's avatarChange is Life

i wonder frequently; why is there an innate need to compare yourself to others or situations of others to realize your own self worth and in some cases even for being happy in your life.? It’s interesting to note that a large component of our day 2 day happiness is driven when we compare our ā€œfateā€ or ā€œachievementsā€ with others.

This type of behavior has exponentially expanded with the massive adoption of social media where the access to what ā€œothersā€ are doing is very easy. I believe social media platforms such as FB, Twitter, Instagram, have tapped into the innate need and have successfully monetized it which is brilliant in concept but could have terrifying consequences. What do you call this type of happiness?… Colloquially, i just call it ā€œEpisodic happinessā€ as it’s transient in nature and never lasts for long… The examples are many – I got better grades…

Ever wondered why you can never be mad at your mother for
very long? I Love my mom a lot, like almost all of us. If you see deep inside
its mainly because she loves you, accepts you, corrects you, does a thousand
other things and hence is just irreplaceable. Her entire life always revolves
around you. If we could just take the good part from this, try to use it in
every relationship we come across, we will have a beautiful life.

Mother not only loves you but also helps you become a better
individual, by being strict sometimes same goes with your teacher, your mentor,
or even your manager at work. They just want you to be better than what you
were before. If we do not put every
relationship we have, under the microscope, you will see things can work out
much better. It just takes few…

Why We Should Not Take on Other People’s Problems: A Counselor’s Perspective

Have you ever found yourself growing frustrated because ā€œthat person just won’t listen to my advice,ā€ or because ā€œdon’t they seem to recognize how they are hurting themselves by acting like that,ā€ or because ā€œI can’t believe someone could be so irresponsible.ā€

I know I am guilty of this from time to time.

These are coming refrains we say to ourselves when we are in the midst of taking on other people’s problems. Maybe we feel compelled to solve the problem for our loved ones.Ā  We can’t stand to watch them make a mess of themselves or their lives.

Yet we have no choice BUT to let other people live their lives. However they see fit. Without us making choices for them.Ā  Or telling them what we THINK is the right choice. The bottom line is we cannot make ANYONE do anything they do not want to do.

We…

Why don’t I have any Friends?

friendship, happiness, lonliness, self love

imanorac's avatarShark Week Survival Kit Blog

In an effort to build a list for my 21st birthday celebration I sat down to jot down a list of people to invite. I came up with four people, two of which had other plans. ā€œWhy don’t I have any friends?ā€ I thought to myself. At first I got very sad and decided that something must be wrong with me. Then I realized these things,

  1. I don’t have friends because I make myself too busy to maintain emotional depth in my social life
  2. I do not reach out to friends I once had because I don’t like to go out
  3. I am terrible at keeping in contact with people
  4. I have anxiety about my future and I have decided that every second that I’m relaxing is a nail in the coffin on my socioeconomic growth
  5. I’m not very fun

I’ve decided that these five points are the reason I…

I need a little help to get by

amomentinmymind's avatarA Moment In My Mind

I don’t ask for help. I am just learning to ask for information I need for work or other things I may need answers too. This week of the flu and the revelations that lying in bed have provided has shown me that I need to ask for help, assistance and then receive it when it comes.

I need to look for more help, professional help to assist me understand what way next for me and what steps I need to get there. If I’m honest with myself the thought of progressing, changing and transforming my life scares me. Can you imagine having the life you’ve always wanted? Petrifying right?

So what is one of the main things that you know if you addressed it that would mean the ending and beginning of everything????

When Things Go Your Way

great life, happiness, incredible, love life, Motivation

Life is beautiful.

Sometimes something makes you smile and you realise that life isn’t ALWAYS bad.

There is that one random moment that will happen that will just make you stop and smile, it happens often sometimes we just don’t see it, or choose to ignore it.

It could be as simple as someone smiling at you in the street, or letting you out at a junction (assuming you drive). Just something little that another human does for one another.

They make you realise that actually sometimes you can rely on the beauty of our human nature to force our minds to remember that everything is ok.

Life is beautiful, and everything does get better even though it won’t feel like it all the time. We can hide away all we like but sometimes those moments outside in the real world are what make life worth living.

I’ve learnt lately…
